Pledge to do better - Ethical business

Why we took the tech pledge – and why you should too

A few weeks ago, we decided to take The Tech Pledge, written by attendees at Techfestival 150. It builds upon work already started by The Copenhagen Letter and aims to create a more ethical tech environment for us all.

With a focus on holding the value of humanity above business, The Tech Pledge asks us to commit to use tech for good and not harm, to consider the consequences of our creations and to be responsible for our use of tech in our working day.

Technology has given us all the ability to create freely – and that’s a wonderful thing. It opens up many doors for us to learn, build and make our ideas become reality. Putting this power in the hands of wider society, however, can lead to unscrupulous decisions by some. The Tech Pledge asks us to step back and consider if we are creating something with the potential for harm. Are our creations fuelling addiction or deception? Have we given enough thought to all the possible consequences of our work? Are we actively working towards making tech inclusive or exclusive?

Our work in ethical branding is part of our company mission to fight for a better world. We develop branding strategies for organisations that not only grow their business, but give them an opportunity to contribute positively to their communities. We love providing clients with beautiful brands that represent their business in the best way – but that’s not all we do. We show them how their brand can actually be a force for good in the world, and we give them the tools to make that happen. Taking The Tech Pledge is just one way we commit to ethical living and working.

The last commitment on the tech pledge is to fix what we break. If you’ve reached this last paragraph and have realised that you may well have broken something in the past, now is the time to start again. Take The Tech Pledge and commit to an ethical future.
